Maternal and Child Health
The Road Map for Accelerating the Reduction of Maternal and Neonatal Mortality and Morbidity discusses the situation of maternal and newborn health services, with highlights on the burden of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, ante natal care, skilled attendance at birth, emergency obstetric care, newborn care, post-partum care, post-abortion care, family planning, adolescent sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS as well as the causes of maternal and neonatal mortality. The Road Map defines the path that the Government of Uganda with key stakeholders will take in order to accelerate the reduction of maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity. It states the vision, which is “To have women in Uganda go through pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum period safely, and their babies born alive and healthy”. The overall goal is to accelerate the reduction of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in Uganda and help the country achieve the MDGs.
